Mobile phones. Cell phones. Whatever they’re called around the world, most people have them these days. Many use them in preference to landlines and wouldn’t be without them. But when it comes to replacement, especially replacing one that has been stolen or involved in an accident, often the only option is to buy another phone, as many contracts don’t permit upgrading at will.
Contract vs Pay’n’go Deals
The biggest advantage of a pay’n’go phone is that upgrading is subject to the owner’s discretion and finances. But contracts are better value these days, allowing for flat-rate internet access, fixed numbers of texts per month or so many minutes of calls. However, they do restrict upgrading at will/as necessary and tie phone owners into waiting several months before either changing the contract for another or upgrading the phone. Some contracts will permit upgrade to a more expensive tariff at any time, but only allow moving to a cheaper deal half way through. Others are tailored more specifically to individual needs but will run for longer and cannot be altered, bought out or amended in any way for the entire time.
