Mobile homes are a convienent alternative to a traditional home, but when it comes to energy efficiency, many of these homes simply are not constructed to the efficiency standards that a traditional house becasue of the extra manufacturing expenses that would be incurred. If you own a mobile home and want it to be properly insulated, use the following methods to create a thermal shell around your mobile home.

Insulating A Mobile Home

Measure around one of the windows on the outside of your mobile home. Cut 2x4s that will go on the sides, top, and bottom of the windows over the existing trim, using circular saw. Attach the 2x4s with sheet metal screws to the original frame of the window. Repeat this for the remaining windows and doors. The amount and length of the 2x4s will depend on the size and number of windows. This will allow the new insulation to properly meet the window trim after it is installed over the 2x4s.
